The emotions Nanami has for Komaeda are both extremely simple and extremely complicated. (Hold on, I just dropped all my words on the floor, uhh...)

Nanami blames herself for a lot of what went down at Hope's Peak. Even though she wasn't directly responsible for the carnage, she was appointed class rep and did take on the responsibility that came with that position. In the few weeks during which Komaeda was still with the 77th, she cared about him just as much as the rest of her classmates. She also sensed both how he pushed people away, and also how their classmates were more than happy to ostracize him for his weirdnesses.

Didn't matter. He's still her classmate. He's one of the dozen or so people she cares about most in the world. She tried to reach out to him and connect - but she's still new at the socialization thing, and it wasn't enough to bring him into the group cohesively. From there, and what she believes to be her own failure, originated Komaeda's attack on the auditorium; his and Chisa's subsequent departure, and the 77th never being whole again.

She feels like she has a lot of ground to make up. He didn't really get just how much she cared about him in life; she doesn't want to make that mistake again in the afterlife. But there's an invisible wall there that she can't manage to get through, just yet. Komaeda's clearly Been Through some stuff, both at Yogen and before then. Hinata's spared her the details of the Ultimate Despairs but otherwise gave her a broad overview of the timeline; still, she knows there's a lot she's missing. It's both in the knowledge that she's missing several years of Komaeda's experiences, between graduation and the Jabberwock killing game, and also in the ways that Komaeda acts - he's both more familiar with people and more closed off, depending on the situation.

She knows it's gonna take work to get to know him. But it's work she'll put in every time. She cares about him quite a lot, and even in his unpredictability there's a familiarity to him that she appreciates. Whether or not she's able to understand his heart fully, she's glad she can be his friend and see him again, even if just for a little while.

EDIT: and I should mention! Nanami hasn't met Midori yet but I'm extremely excited for that, because while AInami went into meeting Midori completely blind, RLnami's been warned about Midori's dangerousness by her roomie, SO I'm very interested to see what happens there.

sighs... these poor kids...

Here's the unique thing about Joe, among Nanami's CR: at this point, they've both spilled the beans. Not entirely - not in detail - but both of them have seen each other at their worst. They've looked in the mirror and seen each other.

It's a double-edged sword, cause it's painful seeing somebody go through the awful things that you are - she wouldn't wish her traumas on anybody - but it also means you can actually do something about it. Nanami's keeping an eye on Joe. He's somebody who, she can understand what he's going through, she knows how to be there for him - maybe not always what specifically to do, but how to be with him when it's bad.

Of course "mutual trauma care" isn't their only interactions - she's dragged him to game club at least once or twice now, she'll find him to chat after class and probably swap homework notes cause what?? real classes?? she hasn't had those in AGES, help - anyway he's a good friend, and she's always glad to have him around for a chat - hopefully about the less weighty things from time to time too, but also... it's nice to have somebody who knows what you're going through, even a little bit.

It's hard to get a good sense of Nanami and Nene yet, but from first impressions Nanami thinks she's a cute kid. Way too young to be in a high school and ESPECIALLY one filled with death, oh gods protect this girl. She'll have been really gentle with her during Disney, bringing her things and inviting her to play games with her and Riika as often as Nene would like.

Whether or not she found out about the mermaid thing... again hard to say, she might have an indication but honestly she's so much in her own world with games & trying to dissociate away from Things To Not Think About that she might have missed it; we'll have to see !!

Sidney: just a really good dadfriend. He was extremely helpful to her and now she's taking those grounding techniques forward, using them both for herself and for other friends of hers in trouble. She thinks about him a lot and probably checks in with him from time to time to make sure he's doing okay. Has he been dragged to game club for a match or two of Mario Kart? Yes. Yes he has.
