The kryptonite, honestly, so Alice is probably the only one aside from Sara who got him, but Alice was pure coincidence, and Sara had to work for that, so it's like Oh shit, here he is, so many people tried to kill me, but he made it happen without even trying to make it happen, imagine dying to a man that goes Oh... I fucked up. So the pettiness drives his anger because he died for no reason, and the it wasn't even what he wanted to do!!! That stings, makes him even pettier so I think his anger / fear is born from that...
Looks at hands... so I do feel like at times his anger is fake because he can mock and be a bitch, but subconsciously this man killed him, so petty, having to make conscious decisions of avoiding that happening again, etc.
